The Centre for Advanced Qur’anic Studies at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), in collaboration with the Khulafa’urrashidun Institute, Sharada, has organised a capacity-building workshop aimed at promoting accurate methods of Qur’anic interpretation and discouraging misleading exegesis.
Speaking at the event, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Ahmad Murtala, said the workshop was convened to address challenges associated with incorrect interpretations by some scholars, with the goal of safeguarding the sanctity of the Holy Qur’an and protecting the Muslim community from misguidance.
Prof. Murtala explained that the training seeks to ensure that Qur’anic recitation and exegesis are carried out strictly according to authentic principles and not influenced by personal opinions.
“We organised this workshop to draw the attention of Qur’anic scholars to the problems that arise when prophetic traditions are misapplied during interpretation,” he said.
He added that errors in Qur’anic exegesis have continued to increase, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Haruna Musa, expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the workshop and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the advancement of Islamic and modern education for the overall development of society.
“BUK will continue to support the Centre for Qur’anic Studies with equipment and funding to enable it to organise trainings that strengthen the competence of Qur’anic scholars and those dedicated to its interpretation,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
The workshop drew participants from various Islamic scholars, students of Qur’anic studies, and stakeholders from different states across the country.
