A businessman, Alhaji Auwalu AA Rano, has pledged to construct a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) in Rano town to support the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Zonal Command, in its fight against child abuse.
The commitment was announced during a sensitisation campaign against sexual assault held in Rano, where NAPTIP’s Gender-Based Violence Coordinator, Hajiya Rashida Aminu, cautioned families against sending their children or domestic workers to places where they may be exposed to forced labour or prostitution.

She urged residents to promptly report all cases of child abuse and other forms of molestation to the appropriate authorities, assuring that NAPTIP will always protect the identities of those who report such incidents.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Rano Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Uzairu, expressed concern over the growing rate of family separation, noting that it is affecting students’ academic performance. He called on stakeholders to take urgent measures to address the trend.
The sensitisation programme, held at Government Girls Secondary School, Rano, drew Islamic scholars, community leaders, and a large gathering of heads of households.
