Kano 8-man Verification Committee On BESDA Project, Submits Report To MOE

The 8-man Verification Committee on projects executed under the programme of Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State from 2022 – 2023 has submitted it’s report to the State Ministry of Education.

This was contained in a statement signed by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry.

Recall that 8-man Committee was recently set up by the ministry to verify all the projects being awarded in schools across the 44 Local Government Areas under the BESDA programme which is a World Bank initiative, to know about the status of the projects and enable government to address other pending issues.

Presenting the report to the state Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Chairman of the Committee also Special Adviser to the Governor on Vocational Education Alhaji Habib Hassan El-Yakub disclosed that the committee had gone round all the Schools that benefitted from the projects and compiled report with recommendations for proper implementation.

He explained that among the terms of references given to the committee was to find out the number of schools that benefitted from the projects, the level of the projects execution and give out possible recommendations that could assist government towards sorting out all issues regarding the projects.

Alhaji Habib Hassan revealed that based on its finding, the committee had classified the projects in to four groups with first group consisting of schools projects that were completed with out any problem which the committee recommended for the settlement of the contractors involved.

” The second group consists of the schools projects said to be completed by the contractors but there are still some minor renovations to be done which we advised that the affected contractors should be called to sites and ensure proper completion of the project.

” We also noticed that there are schools projects that are not being completed but the contractors are now coming back to the sites while there are some projects that their contractors are yet to commence work ” he revealed.

The Chairman added that the committee discovered about 330 schools as beneficiaries of the BESDA Projects in the state at different level of execution and had compiled comprehensive data that could be used for further action.

” So, the committee has made all the necessary recommendations which we believe will certainly assist government to come up with lasting solutions towards addressing all issues concerning these projects ” Alhaji Habib assured.

He further thanked the state government for giving them the privilege to serve and contribute their own part towards the development of education in the state.

Receiving the report, the State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa noted with appreciation the outcome of the committee’s findings, stressing that…. ” in view of the competent hands that formed the committee, there is no doubt, a lot would be achieved.

” As a matter of fact, the committee has the right people that can do what is expected. I must thank you for taking your time to come up with the report and assure you that government would do what is possible to address all the outstanding issues about the BESDA Schools Projects for the benefit of its people ” the Commissioner maintained.

Members of the committee are Special Adviser to the Governor on Vocational Education, Alh. Habibu Hassan El-Yakub as Chairman, Alhaji Danladi Idris Karfi as member and Hon. Ahmed Muhd Speaker also member.

Others are Director Physical Planning, Ministry of Education as member, Director Guidance and Counselling as member, Director Planning, Research and Statistics SUBEB as Secretary while Director Physical Planning SUBEB and Alh. Abba Nasidi serve as co-opted members.
