Kano Emerges Winner Of 1st And 3rd Position At ANCOPSS Essay And Quiz Competition

Kano State Students Umar Shehu Umar and Maryam Jibrin from Dawakin Tofa Science Secondary School and Al’Iman College Kano have emerged winners of the North West Zonal Competition organized by All Nigeria Conference for Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) held at Katsina State.

Umar Shehu Umar became winner of the 1st position on Essay writing for Senior Secondary Schools while Maryam Jibrin attained 3rd position on Quiz competition respectively.

The North West Zonal competition is part of the activities performed by the association during it’s Annual Mandatory Continuine Professional Training Programme (MCPT), Katsina 2023 which comprised Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto states.

Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Director Public Enlightenment of the Kano State Ministry of Education, in a statement on Friday said the winners are expected to represent Kano State and North West Zone at the National Quiz and Essay writing competition to be held in Abuja.

Receiving the winners in his office, the state commissioner of education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa acknowledged with appreciation the wonderful performance of the students, adding that the development is a clear testumony of the present administration’s effort of transforming the education sector.

Umar Doguwa maintained that in ensuring quality of education in the state, Kano State Government had directed even the private schools to review their records of academic activities to operate within the context of its policies and programmes to achieve better performance.

He urged staff of the ministry and it’s parastatals to work as a team so as to complement Government’s designed agenda of transforming education in the state.

” The principal work of any civil servant is to support and promote government policies and programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of the common man, so, your main duty is to serve the public ” he emphasized.

He reiterated the commitment of the administration in reviving the lost Glory of the education sector, stressing that the state would continue to maintains it’s position as role model in initiating new education programmes.

The Commissioner further commended organisers of the competition and assured them of government support on any move geared towards developing education in the state.

Doguwa expressed optimism that going by the performance of the competition winners, Kano State would still take 1st position at the National level.


Introducing the competition winners to the Commissioner, the Executive Secretary Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB) Dr. Kabiru Ado Zakirai explained that some schools were selected from Kano that represented the state at the recent Quiz competition organized by All Nigeria Conference for Principals of Secondary Schools held in Katsina State.

According to the Executive Secretary, the students were given intensive training before going to the competition and that had yielded positive result.

” The management of this Board therefore decided to come to your office to introduce the winning students for your blessings and also introduce the newly posted Director Administration and General Services of the Board Hajiya Laila Muhd Hassan who asummed duty recently ” he stated.
