Kano Govt Moves to Curb Resurgence of Illegal Achaba Operations

The Kano State Government has acknowledged rising public concerns over the renewed activities of commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Achaba, across parts of the state despite an existing ban.
According to credible intelligence and field reports, Achaba operations have resurfaced in several communities within Kano metropolis, with neighbouring and border areas also witnessing increased activities. The Government further disclosed that some unknown individuals have infiltrated the state, disguising themselves as commercial motorcycle riders in various communities.
In a statement by the
Commissioner for Information & Internal Affairs Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya isued on Sunday, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents across all 44 Local Government Areas. It added that security agencies have been fully mobilised and remain “on top of the situation,” with assurances of continued support to ensure effective and professional enforcement.
The statement also confirmed that public recommendations—particularly calls for enhanced surveillance at entry and exit points—are being reviewed as part of a broader security response strategy.
The Government expressed appreciation to the people of Kano for their vigilance, cooperation, and trust in the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Citizens were urged to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and continue working with security agencies to restore full peace and stability.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Governor Yusuf’s commitment to tackling security challenges in collaboration with local governments, traditional institutions, community leaders, and citizens’ groups.
