KanoState Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed satisfaction with the state’s remarkable improvement in revenue generation, ranking first in Northern Nigeria and ninth nationally, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the achievement was a result of ongoing reforms in the revenue sector under Governor Yusuf’s administration.
The Executive Chairman of the Kano Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zaid Abubakar, briefed the governor on the ranking during the induction ceremony of newly recruited KIRS staff, attributing the success to the governor’s commitment to institutional reforms and professionalism in the public service.
“Kano State is ranked first in Northern Nigeria and ninth nationally in revenue generation. We used to be ranked as low as 30th before,” Abubakar said, adding that the achievement was a clear outcome of the ongoing reforms.
The KIRS Chairman commended Governor Yusuf for recognizing revenue generation as a strategic pillar for sustainable development and investing in human capital to strengthen revenue administration and operational efficiency.
Governor Yusuf has warned that his administration has zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, or unethical conduct, and any officer found wanting would face disciplinary measures.
The Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaya, congratulated the newly inducted officers, emphasizing that effective revenue administration is vital to Kano State’s development agenda.
