NUJ Kano Council Suspends Secretary Over Alleged Misconduct

The Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has approved the immediate suspension of the Council’s Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, over alleged misconduct, insubordination, and financial fraud.

The decision was taken during the Congress held on Saturday, after the Council Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, read a formal request from the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee seeking the suspension.

The committee’s request followed a petition submitted by six council members.

The motion for the suspension was seconded by Rabi’u Aboki Anas of ARTV and Ahmad Muhammad Gwarzo of Nigerian Tracker, and was unanimously supported by the Congress.

Sources close to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee alleged that the suspended secretary had interfered with ongoing investigations and attempted to intimidate some committee members.

The Congress has directed Abubakar Shehu Kwaru to hand over all Secretariat property to the Assistant Secretary, Hauwa Sulaiman Zahraddeen, who will serve as Acting Secretary in accordance with the NUJ Constitution, pending the committee’s final recommendations.
