Six Kano Private Schools To Face Legal Action Over Alleged Violations

The Kano state government has commenced legal process against 6 private schools for allegedly violating the law guiding the operations of private and voluntary institutions in the State.

The Executive Secretary of private and Voluntary Institutions Board Alhaji Baba Abubakar Umar disclosed this while briefing newsmen at Gidan Malamai in kano metropolis.

He said the measure is to ensure that all private schools in the State operate in accordance with the law.

Alhaji Baba Umar explained that the board has embarked on supervision and monitoring of private schools to ensure compliance and identity violations.

He outlined complains raised by the parents, including arbitrary increase of school fees, compulsion to buy uniforms, cardigan and textbooks from the schools among others.

Alhaji Baba Umar said such matters must be with the consent of two thirds majority of parents Teachers Associations and approved by the board as stipulated by the law.

The Executive Secretary charged proprietors of the private schools to employ qualified teachers and pay them appropriate salaries and other entitlements.

While appealing to parents to promptly settle the school fees of their wards, he also emphasized the need for schools to operate within approved teaching curriculum.

Alhaji Baba Abubakar Umar then called on parents and other stakeholders to alert the board on unlawful fees increment , unlawful charges and other violations for prompt action.

He assured to be just and fair to both parents and proprietors of the schools as stipulated by the law establishing the board.

He assured the public that no stone will be left unturned to achieve desired results in the operation of private and voluntary schools in Kano State.
