Kano Executive Council Approves ₦54.8bn for Major Infrastructure, Education, Health and Security Interventions.

The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of ₦54,798,217,384.19 for the execution of key developmental projects across multiple sectors during its 34th meeting held on Thursday, 27 November 2025, at the Government House, Kano.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to infrastructure expansion, improved service delivery, and enhanced security across the state.

EDUCATION SECTOR – ₦4.68bn

The Council reaffirmed its dedication to revitalizing learning environments and technical education. Approvals include:

Additional works at GTC Dambatta – ₦242m

Additional renovation works at GTC Ungogo – ₦188.4m

Renovation of Falgore Primary School – ₦167.4m

Reallocation of earlier-approved funds to SUBEB for renovations and furniture – ₦1.89bn

Procurement of school furniture for 13 LGAs – ₦1bn

Completion of furnishing for 34 school libraries – ₦190.6m

Supporting works for the take-off of the Polytechnic in Gaya were also noted under the Works and Higher Education sectors.

HIGHER EDUCATION – ₦345m

Provision of operational vehicles for the Committee on the establishment of Gaya Polytechnic – ₦345m

HEALTH SECTOR – ₦867.6m

Funds were approved to strengthen routine immunization and primary healthcare infrastructure:

Q4 Routine Immunization Activities – ₦344.7m

Renovation and equipping of Malikawa Garu PHC and Malikawa Sarari Health Post, Bichi LGA – ₦522.9m

WATER RESOURCES – ₦916.1m

To ensure uninterrupted water production and distribution, Council approved:

Settlement of September 2025 KEDCO energy bill – ₦214.2m

Diesel supply for October 2025 – ₦153.4m, ₦288.5m, and ₦260m

WORKS & INFRASTRUCTURE – Over ₦39bn

The sector received the largest allocation for extensive road, bridge, and public infrastructure projects. Key approvals include:

Unguwa Uku–Yanwaki–Limawa Junction Road augmentation – ₦352.9m

Construction of 3-span bridge at Rogo–Gwangwan–Sundu Road – ₦5.28bn

Gama Road Network rehabilitation – ₦3.29bn

Sarkin Yaki Road reconstruction – ₦2.61bn

Independence Road rehabilitation – ₦3.55bn

Sokoto/Iyaka Road rehabilitation – ₦3.98bn

Rano–Saji surface-dressed road – ₦4.98bn

Zaria Road rehabilitation – ₦2.11bn

Gwarzo Road–Ring Road link construction – ₦2.25bn

GENERAL COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS

1. Security Concerns Over Alleged Militia Recruitment

The Council condemned recent comments by former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, describing them as inflammatory and a threat to public peace, following reported plans to recruit 12,000 individuals into an alleged religious militia called Khairul Nas.

Council resolved to:

Appreciate the Federal Government and security agencies for ongoing support.

Call for the immediate investigation and arrest of Dr. Ganduje over alleged attempts to form an illegal militia.

Caution public figures against divisive statements.

Reassure residents of the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security.

2. Housing Occupancy in Kwankwasiyya and Amana Cities

Council reaffirmed the 31 December deadline for allottees to take possession of their homes and commended those who have complied.

3. Awards Presented to the Governor

The Governor received multiple awards from professional bodies, civil society groups, and development organizations, recognizing his administration’s achievements in governance, health, broadcasting, and public service.

Comrade Waiya concluded that the wide-ranging approvals underline the administration’s resolve to deepen infrastructure development, enhance institutional capacity, and safeguard the security and wellbeing of Kano residents.
