Kano Govt Proposes N1 Trillion Budget For 2026

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf set to present the state’s 2026 budget with estimate amounting to one trillion naira — the highest in the history of the state.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Director General Media and Communications, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor made the disclosure during a special session on the 2026 budget proposal.

The statement added that the governor is expected to present the budget to the Kano State House of Assembly next week for consideration and approval.

This marks the first time Kano State will be proposing a budget exceeding one trillion naira.

Governor Abba Kabir attributed the increase in the budget size to the significant improvement in the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).

“Our administration has strengthened revenue-generating mechanisms and blocked leakages, which has given us the capacity to embark on major projects in 2026,” the governor said.

Governor Abba Kabir further stated that next year’s budget will prioritize agriculture, education, healthcare, and the empowerment of small and medium-sized enterprises.
