KNCDC, L-PRESS Strategies Plan To Control Transmitted Diseases In Kano

The Kano State Center for Disease Control (KCDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock and the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), has inaugurated a strategic One Health Platform aimed at enhancing the state’s capacity to prevent and respond to disease outbreaks.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Conference Hall of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and was officially declared open by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Faruk Ibrahim.

In his remarks, the SSG stated that the establishment of the One Health Platform is a major step forward in the state’s efforts to curb the spread of diseases—especially those transmitted between animals and humans, as well as challenges emerging from climate change.

He explained that the platform unites experts from human health, animal health, and environmental health sectors, enabling them to work collaboratively in detecting and preventing diseases before they escalate.

The Director General of the Kano State Center for Disease Control, Professor Adamu Abbas, noted that the center was established by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to anticipate potential outbreaks and take proactive measures.

He added that having a medical doctor as director ensures continuous monitoring of zoonotic diseases and strengthens the overall public health surveillance system across the state.
