State Legislatures Financial Autonomy : PASAN Gives FG 21 Days Ultimatum

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) has issued to the Federal Government a 21 days strike notice, to implement financial autonomy of state legislatures.

The warning came following the refusal of the Government of the Federation to implement Financial Autonomy for the State Legislatures as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

In a statement signed by the Secretary General of the union Mr. Ugochi Agugbue, sent to all branches of PASAN said the decision taken is after taking necessary avenues to get government compliance to the provisions of the Constitution, but fail to do so.

The statement added that, the union had resolved to issued 21 days ultimatum at the National Delegates Conference for the implementation of the Financial Autonomy of the State Houses of Assembly with effect from Monday 18th September 2023 failure to which the Union will take industrial strike action at all national and state branches across the State.

Responding on the issue, the Chairman of PASAN kano branch, Comrade Bashir Yahaya said they notifed kano State House of Assembly about their decision and readiness to comply with National order.
