The National Deputy Chairman, North West, of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Hajiya Naja’atu Bala Muhammad, has said the inauguration of the Kano State Caretaker Committee was a constitutional step to fill an administrative vacuum, and not an act of exclusion or factional victory.

Speaking at a press conference at the Kano Press Centre on Monday, Naja’atu described the event as “a day of responsibility” rather than celebration. She said the party leadership acted in line with the ADC Constitution, the Electoral Act and its duty to protect the party’s unity and continuity in Kano State.

According to her, the committee was not set up to reward friends or punish opponents, but to preserve the integrity of the party.

“The constitution of a Caretaker Committee must never be interpreted as a judgment on the commitment and loyalty of our thousands of members across Kano State. Our members remain the greatest strength of this party,” she said.

She urged the new committee to lead with fairness, transparency and impartiality. Their mandate, she added, is to heal divisions, rebuild confidence in party structures, strengthen institutions and prepare the party for future congresses.

“Your success will not be measured by how many decisions you make, but by how many members you are able to bring back together under one banner,” she told them.

Naja’atu appealed to ADC members in the 44 Local Government Areas to embrace unity and avoid alienation. She called on stakeholders to replace suspicion with trust and division with dialogue.

She said the party must now shift focus from internal disputes to ward mobilisation, membership drive and community engagement, noting that Kano people expect credible leadership and practical solutions.

In his response, the newly inaugurated Caretaker Chairman, Umar Bala Usman Kwalwa, assured that the leadership would focus on uniting members.

According to the list released by the party, Umar Bala Umar Kwalwa will serve as Chairman of the committee.
