Stakeholders involved in revenue generation under the Jigawa State Joint Revenue Committee have reviewed the provisions and implementation strategies of the Tax Reform Law, as part of efforts to strengthen revenue administration in the state.
Members of the committee, drawn from the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service and all the 27 local government councils in the state, deliberated on practical steps to ensure the effective implementation of the 2025 Tax Reform Law, which is scheduled to take effect next year.
Speaking at the fifth meeting of the committee held in Kano, the Executive Chairman of the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Nasiru Sabo Idris, said the new tax reforms were designed to strengthen collaboration between the state government and the 27 local governments to achieve an efficient, transparent, and law-compliant revenue collection system.
He explained that the harmonised tax reforms would eliminate duplication, improve compliance, block leakages, and enhance internally generated revenue across the state.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in Jigawa State, Alhaji Ibrahim Hannun Giwa, who was represented by the Director of Research and Statistics in the ministry, Alhaji Isma’il Yusuf, noted that the workshop would significantly contribute to improving revenue mobilisation at both state and local government levels.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Jigawa State chapter, and Chairman of Dutse Local Government Council, Alhaji Dr. Sabu Abdullahi, reaffirmed the commitment of local governments in the state to fully implement the tax reform laws from the grassroots.
During the meeting, a revenue expert, Alhaji Abba Dutse, presented a paper on the implications of the 2025 Nigerian Tax Reform Acts and Modernizing Revenue Processes.
Similarly, a legal practitioner, Barrister Aliyu Abdullahi, delivered a paper on Join Tax Board (JTB) Sharing Formula and Overview of the Joint Committee as well as constitutional provisions, and the legal framework that strengthens the powers of states and local governments in revenue generation.
The meeting was attended by chairmen of all the 27 local government councils in Jigawa State.
