Key stakeholders of the Kano State Hisbah Board have firmly rejected attempts by a group of individuals to establish a parallel security outfit known as Hisbah Independer.

Addressing journalists at the Kano NUJ Press Centre, the chairman of the stakeholders’ committee, Sheikh Mu’azzam Ibrahim Maibushira, warned that the move could create division within the community—an act Islam cautions against—while also posing a serious threat to public security.

He disclosed that the committee’s investigation found that some dismissed Hisbah personnel, allegedly backed by certain politicians, were behind the attempt to form the new faction. He described the development as dangerous and capable of destabilizing the existing Hisbah structure.

Sheikh Maibushira, who also recalled the struggle and sacrifices that led to the establishment of the Kano Hisbah Board, stressed that stakeholders have a responsibility to preserve the principles upon which Hisbah was founded, without political or ethnic interference.

He warned that introducing politics into the activities of the Hisbah Corps could undermine peace, unity, and social order in the state.

The committee chairman called on the Kano State Government to review cases of dismissed Hisbah personnel and reinstate those removed unjustly. He also urged the government to improve the welfare of the Hisbah Corps and provide adequate working tools to strengthen their efforts in crime prevention and the fight against moral decay across the state.

He further revealed that the committee plans to engage with the individuals behind the Hisbah Independer initiative to enlighten them on the potential dangers of their actions.

The press briefing was attended by the Deputy Commander-General of Kano Hisbah, Sheikh Mujahedin Aminudeen Abubakar; Sheikh Ali Aliyu Abubakar; Malam Abubakar Rabo Abdulkareem; Sheikh Nur Arzai; and other prominent scholars who played key roles in the formation of Hisbah in Kano.
