Kano NUJ Delegates Endorse Alhassan, Abimbola As National President, Deputy

The Kano State Council Delegates of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ have endorsed Comrade Alhassan Yahya as the National President and Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde as the Deputy President.
The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi said all delegates, stakeholders are united as one family and therefore committed to vote for credible leaders for the development of the union and its members.
Presenting a motion during campaign rally held at the NUJ Press Center Wednesday in Kano, Comrade Ahmad Mohd Sani Gwarzo from the Kano State Ministry of Information, said the two candidates are qualified in terms of credibility to be the National leaders based on their competence, trust and the good policies that have planted while serving on various positions.

The motion was seconded by the Vice Chairman of Kano council Comrade Mustafa Gambo Mohd also supported by delegates.
In his speech, the Commissioner Ministry of Information , Comrade Baba Halilu Dantiye Mni, urged the candidates if elected to carry everyone along and consider Kano council on apportunities and wished them the best.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhassan Yahya who opened up on his manifesto during the rally in Kano, promised to transform the International Institute of Journalism for optimal performance of the profession.
Comrade Alhassan Yahya, who is the current Deputy President of the union promised to struggle for full implementation of weight-in allowances for State media organisations, better salary package, health insurance scheme, training and retraining of Journalists, also to pursue Special Intervention fund by the Federal Government for the Media industry to support their activities.

The candidate assured to explore partnership and collaboration with entrepreneurs and public/private entities for infrastructural development of the vast land in NUJ Abuja for investments and business activities.
He pledged to ensure transparency and accountability while on board. In addition to his policies, will create ‘NUJ Community Radio’ more apportunities to advance knowledge and welfare to members.
Comrade Alhassan Yahya also promised to establish different committees that will come up with policies that will help journalists and the community while assuring to work together with all national and states council leaders for fruitful results.
The Deputy President of the union, while appreciating the immense contribution of the former president, a son of Kano State Comrade Mohd Garba, hoped to create a great project that will be named after the late Chairman of NUJ Kano Council, Comrade Abduljalal Haruna, to remember his dedication and sacrifice in the union.
Among other responsibilities, he further vowed to continue to defend press freedom and safety of Journalists.
The candidate was accompanied by his running mate Dr. Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, Comrade Victor Echeleme Ndukwe who is seeking for the position of National Treasurer, Comrade Samuel Dada for National Financial Secretary of the Union and the Director General of the Campaign, Comrade Ademola Babalola.
The forthcoming National Dalegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists was slated to take place on 28th November, 2024 in Owerri, Imo state.
